In 1845, the first hydraulic elevator was born. The liquid used at that time was water. In 1853, Elisha Otis, an American, invented an automatic safety device, which greatly improved the safety of the cable-towed elevator.
On March 23, 1857, the first passenger lift using the Otis safety device was installed in a five-storey shop in New York, USA.
